The Borosil Group comprises two independent companies – Borosil Glass Works Ltd and Gujarat Borosil Ltd. Borosil Glass Works is the market leader for laboratory glassware and microwavable kitchenware in India. Gujarat Borosil is India’s only manufacturer of low iron textured solar glass.
Borosil Glass Works Ltd. (BGWL) was established in December 1962 in collaboration with Corning Glass Works USA to manufacture borosilicate low expansion glass. In December 1988, Corning divested its share holding to the current Indian promoters, who have been a leading manufacturer of sheet glass in India since 1961.
Borosil is the market leader for laboratory glassware and microwavable kitchenware in India.
Our Scientific and Industrial Products (SIP) division sells laboratory glassware, instruments, disposable plastics, liquid handling systems and explosion proof lighting glassware through its network of 150 dealers spread across the length and breadth of the country. The Borosil brand represents quality, accuracy and dependability, and all leading pharamaceutial companies, R&D labs scientific, health and educational institutions have been loyal customers of Borosil for the last 48 years. Our glass has found use in over 2000 different products and applications, in areas as diverse as Microbiology, Biotechnology, Photo Printing, Process Systems and Lighting.
In fact, in order to get ISO 9001 certification, it is necessary for a laboratory to use Borosil certified A-class glassware.
Our Consumer Products division sells microwavable and flameproof kitchenware, glass tumblers, lantern chimneys and solar thermal systems through over 5000 retails outlets across the length and breadth of the country. Our products are synonymous with elegance, dependability, safety and ease of use. In the kitchenware segment in India, Borosil is a generic term for microwavable glassware. In fact, our glass tumblers are used by the Indian army in Siachen, as they are the only glasses that will not crack when our jawans have their steaming hot cup of chai in the -60°C weather!

Gujarat Borosil Ltd (GBL) established production of sheet glass using the updraw Pittsburg process in 1994. Gujarat Borosil’s 230 ton per day sheet glass furnace has the ability to manufacture glass ranging from 3 mm to 12 mm thickness, and its sheet glass is used nationwide for a variety of architectural applications. This glass is distributed through a network of 115 dealers across the country.
Gujarat Borosil has recently established a 150 ton per day low iron patterned glass furnace for the manufacture of high transmission glass used in the solar industry. The manufacturing unit comprises top of the line European equipment. Customers of this product include leading solar module manufacturing companies worldwide. This plant is the first and only of its kind in India, and has been developed specifically for the fast growing solar industry.
